Systems – the environment for decisions and actions

“Goals are for losers” pg. 3,  How to Fail at Almost Everything and still Win Big

“Systems are for winners.” pg. 226

” For our purposes, let’s say a goal is a specific objective that you either achieve or don’t sometime in the future. A system is something you do on a regular basis that increases your odds for happiness in the long run. If you do something everyday, it’s a system. If  you’re waiting to achieve it someday in the future, its a goal.” pg. 35

“For example, losing ten pounds is a goal (that most people can’t maintain), whereas learning to eat right is a system that substitutes knowledge for willpower. “

I am very intrigued by Scott Adams’ philosophy about goals.

Environment dictates a lot of behavior,(put a link in here Ed) and I think that systems can serve as a type of environment for decision making, the algorithmic infrastructure for what to do when with the input of time.

In this space I am going to try and start to articulate my systems, and change them to get more towards better systems for my life.
